Floating Floor Soundproofing for Noise Control

Project Overview
This residential soundproofing project focused on controlling impact noise transmitted through a beam floor structure. DECIBEL recommended a tailored solution to isolate the noise at its source and ensure acoustic comfort for both the client and neighbouring apartments.
Challenge
Impact noise travelling through the beam floor compromised the acoustic comfort of the space. The challenge was to introduce an effective solution without disrupting the structural characteristics of the floor.
Scope of Work
- Assessment of the impact noise problem on-site
- Recommendation and installation of a floating floor system using:
- DECIBEL FM SYSTEM
- Vibro FM vibro-insulation pads
- SBR isolation strips along wall boundaries
- Acoustic filling between wooden beams
Solution
The DECIBEL FM SYSTEM was installed to create a floating floor using Vibro FM pads, which provided vibratory separation from the structural slab. SBR strips were placed to isolate the floor from surrounding walls, and acoustic insulation was added between the wooden beams to enhance overall performance.
Result
The treated floor now significantly reduces impact noise, allowing the space to be used comfortably without disturbing adjacent apartments. The floating floor solution preserved the structural integrity while improving sound insulation.
Impact noise is one of the most difficult types of noise to manage in older residential buildings with beam flooring. DECIBEL’s floating floor systems provide an efficient and minimally invasive way to restore acoustic comfort and meet modern soundproofing standards.
