- Echo reduction in instrument rooms at VŠMU
Echo reduction in instrument rooms at VŠMU

Project Overview
For the Academy of Performing Arts (VŠMU) in Bratislava, DECIBEL implemented an acoustic treatment project in collaboration with local partner POTICHU. The goal was to improve the acoustic conditions in two classrooms used for musical instrument practice and performance.
The client required a solution that would support students in achieving a high level of acoustic comfort during rehearsals and lessons, without compromising the visual design of the rooms.
Creating the Right Environment for Music Education
In music academies, echo and noise buildup can negatively affect both the quality of instruction and the concentration of students. Controlling reverberation time is essential to support proper listening, playing technique, and acoustic awareness.
The treatment needed to meet professional acoustic standards while visually integrating into a university learning space.
Challenge
The main challenge was to design and install acoustic panels that would meet the required sound absorption values for music rehearsal rooms. The solution had to be both technically effective and visually compatible with the academic environment.
Scope of Work
- Coordination with the university’s appointed acoustician
- Acoustic design and planning based on room function and usage
- Production of custom-made DECIBEL acoustic panels
- Installation of panels in two dedicated music classrooms
- Visual alignment of the panels with the existing interior design
Solution
Based on the acoustic recommendations provided by the university’s consultant, DECIBEL produced custom-designed acoustic panels with specific absorption values. These panels were made to match the performance requirements for music rehearsal spaces, while also blending well with the existing classroom interiors.
All materials were delivered and installed efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to academic activities.
Result
The two classrooms at VŠMU were transformed into acoustically balanced spaces, supporting clear sound during instrument practice and performance. The echo and unwanted reflections were significantly reduced, improving comfort for both students and instructors.
The university team expressed satisfaction with the acoustic results and the visual quality of the solution. DECIBEL is proud to support the next generation of musicians by helping create spaces that inspire better sound and performance.
