Project Overview

Every great home cinema begins with a vision: a room that delivers the full cinematic experience without ever leaving home. A private client contacted DECIBEL with the idea of turning a dedicated room into a personal theatre for watching films and sports on a 120-inch screen with a wireless sound system and laser projector.

To be completely honest, we really enjoy working with clients who know how to have a good time. 

She wanted immersive sound and visual comfort but was unsure whether full soundproofing would be necessary. With bedrooms located two floors above, the focus was on creating the perfect acoustic environment within the room itself, while maintaining the aesthetic direction of dark blue textiles and rich wooden finishes.

Challenge

The challenge was to achieve a cinema-quality acoustic environment in a residential setting.

The space required careful treatment to balance sound reflections, improve clarity, and maintain a cinematic feel.

The solution also had to align with the client’s interior design preferences and ensure that noise would not disturb other areas of the home.

Scope of Work

• Acoustic survey of the room, including review of photos, drawings, and equipment list
• On-site inspection and acoustic consultation by a DECIBEL engineer
• Preparation of detailed visualisations and two design proposals for the client
• Delivery and installation of selected acoustic treatment within the agreed timeframe

Solution

DECIBEL proposed two design options, both centred on integrating textile and wooden acoustic panels.

Dark blue textile panels were chosen to complement the cinematic atmosphere while absorbing critical frequencies, and wooden panels in darker tones were included for both diffusion and aesthetic depth.

Based on the survey and consultation, the acoustic treatment was tailored to ensure maximum clarity for voices, effects, and music while keeping overall reverberation under control.

Result

The finished home theatre exceeded the client’s expectations. The space now delivers clear, immersive sound that matches the quality of the large-screen visuals, creating an authentic cinematic experience.

With the acoustics refined and the aesthetics in harmony with her vision, the client can enjoy movies and sports in a professional-grade environment, all from the comfort of her home.
