Situation

Magna is a global leader in automotive engineering and design. They manufacture and develop components used in the automotive industry and design cars for the world's most famous manufacturers, constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation and style.

Problem

Decibel was contacted to help solve the problem of two perforation machines that produce noise of over 95dB. Since Magna has organised line production, the noise from these two machines had a huge impact on all the operatives in other parts of the factory.

Approach

The main objective DECIBEL was to make a solution that would give great acoustic results without interfering with the functional operation of the perforating equipment. Decibel engineers proposed an enclosure without a ceiling and with small feed-throughs on each side for the production line. The enclosure was made from galvanised steel, perforated on the inner surfaces to ensure great absorption.

Special challenge

The biggest challenge was to design a solution that would fit a very tight space and still provide excellent acoustic performance.

Results

After installation, the results were obvious. Feedback from production staff who work on nearby machines is very positive and the noise levels across the whole factory have been reduced
